Requirements, Not Resolutions
This is the season when resolutions get loud.
Big promises. Bold declarations. Lists of everything you should fix, change, or finally become and yet... most resolutions don't last. Not because you lack discipline, but because they're often disconnected from your real needs.
This year, shift the focus. Choose requirements, not resolutions.
A resolution is usually future-based and pressure-driven. It asks you to override your current reality in the name of an ideal version of yourself. A requirement is grounded. It's honest. It acknowledges what must be in place now for you to function well, feel regulated, and stay aligned.
Requirements are non-negotiable supports, not self-punishments.
You don't require perfection. You require nourishment. You don't require hustle. You require rest. You don't require constant motivation. You require systems that support your nervous system, your energy, and your capacity.
When you live from requirements, your choices become clearer. You stop forcing habits that drain you and start honoring rhythms that sustain you. You recognize that consistency isn't built through willpower, but through meeting your basic needs repeatedly and without guilt.
Ask yourself different questions:
What does my body require to feel steady?
What does my mind require to feel clear?
What does my energy require to stay protected?
What does my life require to feel spacious instead of rushed?
These answers change over time, and that's allowed. Requirements evolve as you evolve.
Listening to them is a form of self-respect.
Resolutions tend to be loud and brittle.
Requirements are quiet and sturdy. They hold you through busy seasons, emotional seasons, growth seasons, and rest seasons.
When you meet your requirements, growth happens naturally. Not forced. Not frantic.
Just steady and sustainable.
Instead of resolving to be more, do more, or fix more-decide what you require to stay well.
Everything else builds from there.
