Chef Margaret “Tonya” Harriott is a veteran-owned culinary professional, entrepreneur, and community advocate with deep ancestral, self-educated, and working knowledge seeker of Gullah Geechee foodways and Southern cuisine. A standing military member of the American Culinary Federation and an active member of the South Carolina Restaurant & Lodging Association, underscoring her commitment to industry standards, professionalism, and continued development within the culinary field.
Chef Harriott is a graduate of Horry-Georgetown Technical College, where she studied Culinary Arts and Business Management, achieving academic distinction with placement on both the Dean’s List and President’s List. She brings over two decades of experience across catering, food service operations, culinary entrepreneurship, and instructional leadership, supported by disciplined execution and operational consistency.
In addition to her culinary practice, Chef Harriott facilitates farm-to-table culinary classes that emphasize seasonal ingredients, responsible sourcing, and scratch preparation, connecting technique with agricultural awareness and food education. She also provides small business consulting focused on food service operations, compliance, and sustainable business development.
Chef Harriott operates under several entities, including JaiCaDa Enterprises LLC, JaiCaDa Transportation LLC, Margaret Latonya Harriott Corporation (MaLaHa Corp), and Go Get Your You Foundation, reflecting a multidisciplinary approach to culinary, educational, and community-based work. She holds a ServSafe Manager Certification and is a certified ServSafe Instructor and Proctor, enabling her to train and certify food service professionals in food safety and sanitation.
Her culinary philosophy prioritizes classical technique, organization, sanitation, balanced flavor development, and respect for heritage-based culinary traditions. Chef Harriott approaches ACF-sanctioned competition as a professional benchmark, valuing preparation, discipline, and technical excellence. Any prize funds awarded as a result of this competition will be directed toward supporting the Helen P. Deas Community Food Program initiative, including community food drives that assist families, veterans, and seniors experiencing food insecurity.
