6 months into homeschooling/unschooling… and here’s what we’ve learnt.
This journey was never just about education.
Our kids are loud.
They’re curious.
They ask WHY a lot.
They negotiate.
They challenge us.
They speak up.
Sometimes they’re messy.
Sometimes they’re chaotic.
Sometimes they look like they’re not behaving.
But here’s what you don’t see…
They’re learning to use their voice.
They’re learning that their thoughts matter.
They’re learning that respect goes both ways.
We’re not raising children who are scared to speak because an adult walked into the room.
We’re raising children who know how to respectfully ask questions, express emotions, and stand up for what they believe.
Because one day they’ll become adults.
And I don’t want them sitting in too afraid to share an idea.
I don’t want them staying in relationships because they don’t know how to say no.
I don’t want them dimming their light to make other people comfortable.
I want them to be kind.
I want them to be respectful.
I want them to be resilient.
But I also want them to know that their voice has value.
Has this journey been perfect?
Not even close.
We’ve renovated a house.
Travelled in our caravan.
Worked on the road.
Cooked meals together.
Focused on each child’s individual interests.
Focused on the nervous system system.
Broken up more WWE wrestling matches than I can count.
Questioned ourselves.
Unlearnt so much.
Six months in…
I’m realising that maybe the greatest lesson isn’t what my children are learning.
It’s what I’m unlearning.
Next stop… Cairns. 🚐
