Holding Compassion for the Victim
Every aspect of our personality contains both light and shadow. When I pulled this card today I thought to myself how can a victim have a light aspect?
The shadow attributes are easy for me to recognize playing the victim gets us out of doing the things we'd rather not do. It is designed to get others to feel sorry for us and enable us or rescue us.
I've done that often enough in my own life to recognize it and stop and ask myself:
What need am I trying to get met here?
How can I meet that need for myself?
We often play the victim because we are afraid to take responsibility for our own lives and actions. This robs of the experience and keeps us from growing through challenges. It keeps us small and it rarely does what we hope it will do - which I'd keep us safe.
In that lies the answer to the question how can Victim Archetype have Light Attributes?
When we recognize the victim within we can rescue her ourselves. We can keep her safe and we can protect her.
She is a very important part of our selves as she knows the results or playing the victim.
She knows the slippery slope.
She can recognize the rescuers and the bullies.
Without her light to guide us we easily fall back into the victim trap.
The key to balance both inwards and outwards is compassion. Holding compassion for yourself or others when you recognize the shadow of the victim. Remember she is always trying to hide a fear of something. Hold compassion for her instead of rescuing her or beating her up (Remember negative self talk is an indication that your victim shadow us trying to tell you something.
Stop and listen with compassion instead of falling into the trap of bullying her)
Compassion for others who are playing the victim will keep you from diving into the shadow with them.
To remain in shadow the victim needs a rescuer or a bully. The light of a compassionate listener will keep you from becoming either.
