They try to run ads to grow their membership, and send cold traffic straight to their about page without ever checking if it actually converts.
Before you spend a dollar on ads, read your about page out loud. If it sounds like a feature list instead of a transformation, that might be why your community isn't growing.
Your about page isn't a description of your community.
It's essentially a sales page. And it needs to answer one question in the first 5 seconds:
"Is this for me and why does it matter to me right now?"
If it can't do that, fix the page before you touch the ads.
