The answer is easy on the surface but could take years to understand. I'll try to answer in a way that will give you a quick win.
A Dream is a like a big hairy goal. It's something like becoming an astronaut, doctor, or becoming a super rockstar.
A Vision on the other hand is like a core value or a guiding principle for your life. When you have a vision, your dreams and goals will likely have a common thread but it may not seem obvious to the outsider.
For example, I was an IT security analyst who helped companies shore up their weaknesses to make them less vulnerable to cyber attacks AND simultaneously, I was a birth coach. Those two things seem to have nothing in common - but not true. In both cases, I helped the clients see what they wanted as desirable outcomes and helped them build the strategy to achieve them.
The basic difference is: Strategic vs. Tactical
Vision is the Macro infrastructure, while dreams are mini or micro structures along the way.
You may employ a lot of tactics to help you achieve your desired goals << that seems to be easy for most people to understand.
Vision is the overarching framework that encapsulates all your goals. When you deviate too far from your vision, your life literally falls apart. When your dreams support your Vision, you'll enjoy a feeling of accomplishment and success that is immeasurable.
My Vision is I imagine a world where people feel encouraged to explore and pursue their dreams.
Therefore, everything I do is to help people feel like their dreams matter and are worth pursuing and that they are ultimately achievable. I help them get over the mindset that holds them back. I help them problem solve and brainstorm. And, I don't just help with these things, I LOVE helping them!
