So, what?
In any physical endeavor, the hardest part for me isn’t doing the actual work, the hardest part for me is being my honest about how much of the work I am capable of in the moment.
Recently I’ve decided to push myself more as a runner. I’ve decided to set higher mileage goals, faster times, I want to feel better on my runs, etc.
As I push towards my “limits”, doubt starts to creep in. Before, as I approached those “limits” I would justify stopping early. I would use the excuse of something felt sore, I was tired, or it started to rain, looking for any excuse to turn around.
Knowing that I want to run much further than I am currently running, I needed a way to figure out how to convince myself how to keep going.
What if when I notice the “limit” (my energy, the weather, etc) I actively decide that it doesn’t matter and focus on something else. I’ll ask myself “So, what?”
It’s raining.
So, what does that have to do with finishing the run?
I’m tired.
So, what? You’ve been tired before.
So, what? is a great way to ward off excuses that aren’t valid reasons to quit! what are some of your tricks to keep going?
