Nooteboom Low Loader – SAF Axle Hub Repair 🔧
Customer reported a knocking noise and excessive movement from the offside front wheel on this Nooteboom low loader fitted with SAF axles.
Initial inspection confirmed excessive play in the hub bearings, enough to clearly feel movement through the wheel and hub assembly once lifted safely from the ground.
Job carried out:✔️ Hub removed✔️ Bearings replaced✔️ New brake drum fitted✔️ New brake shoes installed✔️ Hub nut torqued to 700Nm✔️ Wheel nuts torqued to 650Nm
One of the awkward parts on these setups is lining the hub and drum together while fitting the studs back through cleanly, so I grabbed a quick video showing a little trick that makes the job far easier and saves fighting with it on the floor.
It’s easy to underestimate bearing play on trailers like these until the hub is removed and you physically see how much movement is actually there.
This one was caught before it became a much bigger issue on the road 👌
What’s the worst trailer wheel bearing play you’ve come across? 👀
