Music Journey
Hey Music Lovers!
Thought I would share my own journey to playing music.
While I was classically trained on the cello, my first love of playing music was bluegrass and celtic fiddling. I was privileged to get free violin lessons at my church, and started learning to play and read violin music through Suzuki. Sadly, we switched churches and I lost my teacher. I didn’t stop playing violin though. In fact, I kept growing in any way I could. I bought a cello and was encouraged to get lessons. That’s when I discovered my true calling in cello performance.
I wanted to write music too. I was definitely inspired by soundtracks from Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean. I experimented with my own composing, showed it to a music theory teacher, and after a few questions he told my mom in a gruff, Italian accent “He’s got things in here that just won’t work.” He saw my passion though and took me on for private music theory lessons and helped me learn how music “will work.”
Much later, I went to college for cello. I got to take instrumental arranging classes, and even orchestration! I had to study viola in a group class as a requirement for my major, and after experimenting on the double-bass, I found myself promptly recruited to play bass for many of the college ensembles. I was privilege to perform my own hymn arrangements for the college church, and even got to write music for the college orchestra!
Now, all that experience has placed me here at Rose Music Studio to help students play their favorite instruments and songs. I love hearing the student’s vision come to life in their hands, and am privilege to be a part of their journey.
