Rethink Community and the Foundation Programme were created by Peter Burke, who spent a decade in property finance before realising something was broken. People know what they want but have no idea how to actually build it.
After co-founding A Fairer Society and working with cooperatives and community-driven projects, Peter saw the same pattern repeat: brilliant ideas, passionate people, and projects that dissolved before they ever found land or property.
The problem isn't commitment. It was methodology.
Rethink Community exists to bridge the gap between dreaming and doing. We ask the hard questions early—the ones about money, governance, and group dynamics—because those are the questions that save you years of wasted time and heartache.
This isn't theory. This is what we've learned by building real projects, navigating real legal structures, and watching what actually works when co-creating community.
