Step one of the Big Book
New page
In step one we are that we are powerless over our addiction and that our lives had become unmanageable.
The primary spiritual principle is honesty.
So when I finally got honest with myself about my addiction my life had become way way out of control it was almost too late.
The Key Concepts of Step I
Honesty and surrender
The core of step one is breaking through denial and being rigorously honest about the extent of the addiction and it's consequences. This honesty leads to surrender.
I finally surrendered and knew I had become very lost in the dark world after my husband passed away in October of 2018. He was trying so hard to help me get clean and be a wife again because I'm at the time he was clean wanting to fix our broken marriage. I waxy with him from August 24th 2018 when his stepfather and like my own father passed away. The sickness for the drugs finally outweighed trying to save our marriage so I left 2 weeks before he passed back to the dope mans house. After my tragic and very unexpected husband's passing the drugs and alcohol overtook me and really don't know how I didn't overdose. What broke me was a loaded gun put to the back of my head because I knew the operation and also knew very bad things about the man I was with. That's when I knew I needed help and surrendered December 27 2018 and went to another town and got help and when I got there I had weighed 98 lbs. Wow I knew then I was powerless and my life has become beyond unmanageable.
Powerlessness
Unmanageability
This involves recognizing the chaos, destruction, and negative impacts the addiction has had on all aspects of your life.
Hitting Bottom
The Big Book suggests that few people will sincerely attempt the program unless they have "hit bottom"
I truly believe that because I tried to quit numerous times and even lost my daughter to adoption back when she was 17 months old and that still didn't stop me it just progressed my addiction just that much worse but the loaded and gun and the look in his eyes i knew my life needed to change.
Part 2 I will post in a day or two
