Migrating to Cold database Storage
Happy Thursday!
Not every record from a decommissioned system needs to be migrated to your active cloud repository.
For records that must be kept for regulatory reasons but are rarely accessed, compressing them into a cheaper, read-only cold database archive is the most cost-effective solution.
  1. What criteria do you use to decide if a legacy database should be migrated to active cloud storage or compressed into a cheaper, read-only cold archive?
  2. Are your cold storage systems regularly tested to ensure they can still be searched and decrypted if a regulator requests data?
Action Item: Draft a set of 3 rules that qualify a legacy record for cold archive rather than live migration.
