Western medicine is great at so many things! And then there's this thing about what is called a "healthcare" system that is actually focussed on sickness. Pills for this, quick fix for that...weight loss, high blood pressure, mood stabilization, when really inside each of us is the innate capacity to stay, and remain well, but it does take some effort. The efforts that are made to self-regulate one's mood and behavior develop a skillset that is called "self-regulation" - a biofeedback term that means to regulate ourselves. Who knew??? Why doesn't our doctor recommend this? Why isn't this promoted on tv and in the media? My theory is that if the powers that be promoted wellness there would be a high price to pay in the capitalist culture meaning people would no longer need the drugs that cost so much money and they will be feeling so good that doctors might need to find something to do with all the time that is freed up because society is so well doctors are rarely needed. In any case, in my view the bottom line is don't wait until you're sick to get better. Why not get better and better every single day? One of the affirmations Norman Vincent Peale offers in his book, The Power of Positive Thinking, is, "Every day in every way I am getting better and better." I encourage you to try this way of thinking and see how much more well you can actually be. Please take a moment and introduce yourself and say a little bit about what brought you to this classroom.
