Winning Science Fair Projects for 9th Grade: Best Research Ideas for High Schoolers
ISEF – Science Fair Projects for 9th Graders
The International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) is the world’s largest pre-collegiate science competition which brings thousands of high school students from around the globe to showcase their independent research projects in various scientific topics such as biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, and environmental science, and etc… Participants compete for scholarships, awards, internships, and recognition from leading scientists and educators. Main aim for ISEF is to promote scientific inquiry, innovation, excellence among young researchers, allowing the next generation of scientists and engineers.
There are countless high schoolers competition at this science fair competitions and if you want to get inspiration or project ideas from past students, Society for Science provides a big database of all the past projects and their rankings.

In the year 2022, My Science Fair Project involved in Biomedical Engineering: Synthetic DNA Engineering With ICOR won the first place award of $50,000, Regeneron Young Scientist Award
Abstract: In protein sequences—as there are 61 sense codons but only 20 standard amino acids—most amino acids are encoded by more than one codon. Although such synonymous codons do not alter the encoded amino acid sequence, their selection dramatically affects the expression of the resulting protein. Today, many recombinant vaccines struggle with efficacy due to low expression efficiency. Codon optimization of synthetic DNA sequences is paramount for improving heterologous expression…
I decided to vlog my experience at ISEF so that aspiring students can see what it’s like! This is a must-watch video if you want to know more information on ISEF in general my project!

The BEST Tips & Tricks for Winning Science Fair Projects
  1. No MemorizationHave an idea of what you’re saying but don’t memorize it because you won’t be able to adapt to the situation or questions the judges will ask youIf the judges have a PHD in computer science you should adapt to that knowledge instead of memorizing your entire script
  2. Don’t Overdo Visual, but Have a visualIf you have some sort of visual bring it because it will help you in gather evidence of your projects + your end resultsIf you are doing a project involving computational maybe build a software or an app that can showcase your end results and outcomes
  3. Be genuine & honest. That means talking about mistakes & failuresDo not tend to avoid talking about mistakes you are literally high school and middle school students you can make mistakes!Talk about experiences is still good because it shows that your genuine and it also shows the steps that you went through to find the final solution
  4. Keep goingIf you have a judge that drills your knowledge don’t be scared or burdened because that might affect your responses to the two other judgesJust Keep Going
  5. Bonus Fun Tip – Listen to Hype MusicBefore your ISEF judging listen to some hype songsIt will get your mood rightDon’t rehearse and take too much stress before the judging
