Carrick comes in as Ruben Amorim's replacement following the coach's sacking by United at the start of the month. With United having been knocked out of the FA Cup at the hands of Brighton last week, the goal for Carrick now is to finish in the top five of the English Premier League, starting with this home clash.

Man City heads into this key fixture looking to maintain an unbeaten run. That sequence currently stands at 13 matches across all competitions, following the 2-0 victory away to Newcastle in the first leg of the team's EFL Cup semifinal in midweek.

Caretaker manager Michael Carrick is in the United dugout for the first time. It's a big one. United are seventh and only four points adrift of the Champions League places, but also just six points above 15th-placed Bournemouth on a congested Premier League table.

City have drawn three matches on the bounce but can put scoreboard pressure on league leaders Arsenal with a win here, as the Gunners only kick off later on the same day away to Nottingham Forest. Carrick was announced as Ruben Amorim's successor, at least until the end of this season, just three days before the second Manchester derby of the 2025-26 Premier League season.
