How can I start gaining real quantum computing skills as a sophomore?
I am really inspired to learn more about quantum computing, but I am still early in my Electrical Engineering program and have not taken many major-specific courses yet. Obviously, I am grateful to be part of this community for guidance, but I want to understand what the best path forward looks like from here. Should I try to get involved in a research lab on campus, or focus on finding online courses that build quantum foundations? It seems like a lot of internships expect you to already have quantum skills, which makes it hard to know where to start when those skills are exactly what I am trying to learn. For those who were in a similar position early on, what did you do to start building experience and credibility in this field? Any specific resources, projects, or programs you would recommend?
Spring 2026 Semester Schedule
Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing well. I have a question for you guys regarding my class schedule for my last semester. I am picking my Electrical Engineering electives, and I need help picking my electives. I have to take two, and I have the option to take Quantum Computing (Undergraduate or Graduate), Digital Signal Processing, and Introduction to Photonics. Which two electives should I pick as someone who aspires to be a quantum engineer someday?
Resume Help for Job/Internship Applications
Hi guys! I hope everyone has had a successful week. I am currently working on tailoring my resume as I am applying to quantum engineering jobs/internships. I need some help with my resume which I have attached below. Some questions I have are what should I focus on adding/ removing from my resume? From an employer's standpoint, what is missing in this resume? and how can I best utilize the current skills that I have developed to communicate my readiness for working in quantum? Any input would help as I don't have much experience with this :-/...
How did you first become interested in Quantum Computing in the first place?
What was your initial drive to want to build a career in quantum computing? It’s not like CS where it’s perceived as an “easy career that pays well”. For me, I started with the simple notion “I like computers, and quantum computing seems like a more interesting and advanced version of normal computers”. Of course my first inclination was a little naive, but that’s OK. It eventually grew into a genuine passion. I feel like everyone’s interests originate from some visceral and unconscious gut feeling and can build to a true passion with real experience. What was your gut feeling that has drawn you in to quantum computing? I shared my naive start, so it’s OK if yours is simple too.
Guess who
Can anyone tell me who this is? Hint: he’s a microwave/RF engineer… I just landed in DC; I’m already failing at my goal of traveling less this semester.
