Mama, the doorways of our homes are more than places we pass through. They are places where we can stand in the gap for the children God has entrusted to us. Long ago, God told His people to keep His Word so close that it marked the very entrances of their homes.
“And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.” — Deuteronomy 6:9
🌿 This Week’s Small Challenge:
Each night this week, pause at your child’s doorway and pray a short prayer over them. Just a few sentences, spoken with faith. Below is a simple prayer for each night to help you get started.
🌙 Nightly Doorway Prayers (children at home)
Day 1: Protection
“Lord, I cover this room and this child in Your protection tonight. I ask You to station Your angels around them and keep them safe from all harm. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Day 2: Peace
“Father, I speak peace over this room. Quiet every fear, calm every worry, and give my child sweet, restful sleep. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Day 3: Identity
“Lord, I thank You that my child is fearfully and wonderfully made. Help them know who they are in You and never believe the lies of this world. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Day 4: Friendships
“Father, I ask You to surround my child with godly friends. Give them wisdom to choose the right people and courage to walk away from the wrong ones. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Day 5: Their Mind and Heart
“Lord, I ask You to guard my child’s mind and heart. Fill their thoughts with what is pure, lovely, and true. Let Your Word take root deep within them. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Day 6: Their Future
“Father, I place my child’s future in Your hands. Order their steps, open the right doors, and close the wrong ones. Let them walk in the purpose You created them for. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Day 7: Salvation and Relationship with You
“Lord, more than anything, I ask that my child would know You, love You, and follow You all the days of their life. Draw them close to Your heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
🏡 If your children are grown or no longer live at home:
Your prayers still reach them. Distance does not limit God.
- Stand at the doorway of the room that was once theirs and pray for the life they are living now.
- Pray at your own front door, asking God to watch over every child who has walked out of it into the world.
- Speak each child’s name out loud and pray over their home, their marriage, their work, and their walk with the Lord.
- Send them a text with one verse you prayed over them that day.
🙏 Simple Prayers for Grown Children
For their home:
“Lord, I pray over my child’s home tonight. Let it be filled with Your peace, Your presence, and Your love. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
For their marriage and relationships:
“Father, I ask You to strengthen my child’s relationships. Bless their marriage, heal what is broken, and surround them with people who point them back to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
For their work and provision:
“Lord, I ask You to bless the work of my child’s hands. Give them favor, wisdom, and provision for every need. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
For a child who has wandered:
“Father, You know exactly where my child is tonight. I ask You to pursue them with Your love and bring them home to You. I trust You with what I cannot see. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
For their children (my grandbabies):
“Lord, I lift up my grandchildren to You. Protect them, bless them, and let our family be one that serves You for generations to come. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
🤍 Gentle Reminder:
You don’t need eloquent words. A mama’s simple, faithful prayer at a doorway can follow her children into rooms she will never see.
