Why Writing Songs Everyday Works
It’s better to write every day than to expect a hit every time you write.
Let me tell you something most worship leaders never hear:
Your breakthrough song isn’t going to come from waiting for inspiration to strike.
It’s going to come from showing up consistently—even when you don’t feel like it.
Here’s the truth about hit songs:
You don’t know which one it’s going to be.
I’ve written 200+ songs over 19 years. Some of the songs I thought were “okay” ended up being the ones that connected with thousands of people. Some of the songs I was CONVINCED were hits? Nobody remembers them.
So what’s the solution?
Write. Every. Day.
Not because every song will be a masterpiece. But because:
✍️ 3 Reasons Daily Writing Changes Everything:
1. You Build Your Catalog
Every song you write is an asset. Even if it’s not “the one,” it’s practice. It’s material. It’s INCOME potential. You can’t monetize songs you never finish.
The math is simple:
• Write 1 song/week = 52 songs/year
• Write 1 song/day = 365 songs/year
Which catalog has more income potential? Which one gives you more opportunities to land placements, connect with your church, and build royalty streams?
2. You Develop Your Sound
You can’t “Detect Your Sound” (Module 1, remember?) if you’re only writing once a month when you feel inspired.
Your sound emerges through VOLUME.
The more you write, the more you discover:
• What melodies feel natural to you
• What themes keep showing up
• What your church actually SINGS back to you
Your sound isn’t hiding. It’s WAITING for you to write enough songs to find it.
3. You Remove the Pressure
When you only write once in a while, every song feels like it HAS to be amazing. That pressure? It kills creativity.
But when you write every day, the pressure is OFF.
• Today’s song didn’t land? Cool. Tomorrow’s might.
• This melody feels flat? No problem. Write another one.
• This lyric isn’t hitting? Keep going. You’ll find it.
Daily writing gives you FREEDOM to experiment, fail, and learn without the weight of “this has to be THE song.”
