If you searched “FL Studio mixer settings” or “why my mix sounds muddy”, this solves most beginner mixing problems.
Step 1: Route Your Sounds
- Drums → Drum Bus
- Melodies → Music Bus
- 808/Bass → Separate channel
Routing = control.
Step 2: High-Pass What Doesn’t Need Low End
- Hats, melodies, FX → cut below 100–150Hz
- Leave bass frequencies for kick and 808 only
Mud comes from stacked low frequencies.
Step 3: EQ the Right Way
In Fruity Parametric EQ 2:
- Cut before boosting
- Small, narrow cuts
- Avoid boosting more than +3 dB
If you’re forcing it, it’s the wrong sound.
Step 4: Use Compression Gently
Beginner compression settings:
- Ratio: 2:1
- Attack: slow
- Release: medium
Compression is for control, not loudness.
Step 5: Master Channel Rules
- Don’t produce into a hard limiter
- Add loudness at the final stage only
- Clean mix > loud mix
