Today I played in a melee which mixed up triples and doubles to suit and in the 1st game I played against a gentleman who must have been 80. I was paired with a decent player and we were confident of the win. We played well, I hit lots of boule and so did he. I pointed well and all seemed good in the heat of Aude. But this old
Man simply wouldn’t give up. He hit everything at 6/7/8 meters and shot raffle at longer.
His partner wasn’t great but thrived off his will to win and constant encouragement.
It went all the way to 12/12 and we just scrapes through when he missed his first shot.
Turns out he was a former local champion and has been playing with the same determination for 70 years. No wonder he was a tough competitor.
My taking from this were that no matter how old, whoever you are playing and no matter what the situation you always have a chance if you refuse to give up.
