Are GLP-1 Meds Affecting your Mood and Motivation?
This episode was inspired by my wife and mother-in-law. They have been experiencing some possible decline in their motivation and mood and asked me if this is something associated with the GLP-1 they are using. So I did what I usually do and started looking for the data. Nothing is concrete, this is primarily based on patient reports to their physicians. However, it makes total sense in the scope of the brain's reward center that is affected by these meds.
Have you experienced any of these symptoms? Let me know below.
GLP-1 medications may affect much more than appetite.
Researchers are now investigating their effects on:
  • dopamine
  • reward signaling
  • addiction pathways
  • motivation
  • anxiety
  • emotional regulation
Some patients report life-changing improvements.
Others report emotional flattening or low motivation.
