February Behavior tips
It is February already……..
February is a short month, but behavior expectations still matter. Consistency, structure, and follow-through remain key to student success.
1. Stick to Routines
Changes in schedule can increase frustration and impulsivity. Keep bedtimes, morning routines, and homework schedules consistent—even on short weeks.
2. Reinforce Expectations Daily
Don’t assume students remember the rules. Review expectations before transitions, group work, and unstructured time.
3. Practice Emotional Regulation
Encourage students to:
• Pause before reacting
• Use words instead of behavior
• Take a short break when overwhelmed
These skills need repetition to stick.
4. Watch Energy & Focus
Winter months can impact attention and mood. Build in:
• Movement breaks
• Hydration reminders
• Short task intervals
A regulated body supports better behavior.
5. Praise Effort, Not Just Outcomes
Notice when students:
• Try again after frustration
• Follow directions the first time
• Use coping strategies
Specific praise reinforces positive choices.
6. Partner School & Home
Behavior improves fastest when expectations are consistent across environments. Communicate concerns early and address patterns—not just isolated moments.
February Reminder
Growth happens through structure, consistency, and accountability—not perfection. Progress is built one day at a time.
