Leadership of the worst
Positions of leadership tend to invoke a cynical view in an individual. If you speak to an officer of the law, a pastor at a church, a business owner, etc. you will get a view of humanity that is likely more negative than the one you operate under.
This is because they are exposed on a higher caliber to the worst of humanity. Being forced to endure this at a higher percentage than others creates a whole new reality in their minds, one where the majority of people are just looking to use others.
When in a position of leadership, take careful note of how your view of others changes. It may help you be more realistic, but more likely it will threaten to subject you to trust issues. Guard your mind from the influence of the worst of humanity.
