šŸ˜šŸ’¦ The Day an Elephant Taught Me the True Meaning of ā€œSelf‑Careā€
Hey everyone — Gareth here.
Thought I’d share a quick wildlife travel moment that still makes me laugh.
A while back in South Africa, we came across a young elephant who had clearly decided it was Spa Day. No booking. No robe. No shame.
He walked straight into a mud wallow, scooped up a trunkful of sludge, and launched it over himself like he was auditioning for a L’OrĆ©al commercial called ā€œBecause I’m Worth It… and Also It’s 42°C.ā€
At one point he looked at us — absolutely plastered in mud — with the same expression you give someone who catches you eating peanut butter straight from the jar.A sort of: ā€œYes, I’m doing this. No, I will not be taking questions.ā€
🧭 Beginner wildlife travel tip of the day:
If you ever feel awkward on a trip, just remember: Somewhere out there, an elephant is confidently wearing a full-body mud mask in public. You’ll be fine.
If you want more funny stories, beginner tips, or ideas for wildlife‑friendly destinations, I’m happy to share them. Nature has a great sense of humour if you give it a moment.
What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen while travelling?
