๐ Executive Summary Now Available: Difficult Conversations Part 2
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Inside the Non-Profit Board Room: Difficult Conversations Part 2: Giving and Receiving Feedback.
This was one of our most engaging conversations yet. Members shared real-world challenges, practical solutions, and honest reflections about one of the most important skills in nonprofit leadership: giving and receiving feedback effectively.
Attached is the Executive Summary from the session. We've also uploaded it to the Classroom for anyone who would like to revisit the discussion or share key insights with fellow board members.
Inside the Executive Summary:
โ๏ธ Why feedback is often avoided and why it matters
โ๏ธ The G.R.A.C.E. Framework for approaching difficult conversations with confidence and compassion
โ๏ธ The SBI+Q Framework for delivering feedback that is clear, constructive, and solution-oriented
โ๏ธ Practical strategies for receiving feedback without becoming defensive
โ๏ธ Key themes and insights that emerged from participant discussion
โ๏ธ Actionable takeaways boards can implement immediately
One theme surfaced repeatedly throughout the session:
Many difficult conversations become easier, or can be prevented altogether, when boards invest early in clarity, communication, onboarding, and ongoing feedback.
A few participant reflections that stood out:
๐ฌ "I will keep the G.R.A.C.E. framework in mind. Very helpful both in anticipation of a conversation and in the moment."
๐ฌ "Framing the concern in terms of support and change, rather than criticism, is affirming."
๐ฌ "We have more than one difficult conversation ahead. Thank you for the practical tools and encouragement."
If you attended, we'd love to hear:
๐ What was your biggest takeaway from the session?
If you're reviewing the materials for the first time:
๐ Which idea or framework do you think would have the greatest impact on your board?
The Executive Summary is attached and in the Classroom.
Thank you for continuing to make the Nonprofit Board Impact Collective such a thoughtful and supportive community. ๐
