What does Safety look like?
There was a time when I thought helping an animal feel “safe” simply meant meeting their physical needs.
Food. Exercise. Training. Routine.
But over the years, I began noticing something deeper.
Some animals had everything they were “supposed” to need… and yet still seemed anxious, reactive, shut down, hypervigilant, or unable to fully relax.
What changed the relationship wasn’t more control.
It was emotional safety.
Slowing down.
Listening differently.
Reducing pressure.
Creating trust through consistency, presence, and understanding instead of correction alone.
Sometimes behavior is not asking to be fixed.
Sometimes it is asking:....“Do I feel safe enough to soften here?”
I’d love to hear your thoughts or experiences around this.
Have you ever noticed your animal companion responding differently when they felt truly safe, understood, or emotionally supported? 🐾 What was it that you think that made them felt truly safe?
