I love painting faces!
When I began this piece, I wanted the mothers expression to hold a gentle strength, a sense of calm that radiates outwards, even in the midst of life’s beautiful chaos.
Her eyes are soft, but there’s a spark of knowing in them, as if she’s listening to a melody only she and her child can hear. I layered subtle colours and the slight curve of her lips isn’t quite a smile, but more of a peaceful acceptance.
For me, painting her face was about emanating warmth, with patience, and with a kind of everyday magic that often goes unnoticed. I hope when you look at her, you feel a sense of comfort and connection. I love that the text shows through her complexion, but she’s still serene and beautiful. Hope you like her! X
