Caring Clippers
Years ago, I used to cut my own hair with clippers. One day, the guard fell off without me noticing, and I made a number one cut straight up the middle of the back of my head. That experience taught me to let someone else handle my haircuts.
Yesterday, I went to Great Clips and shared that story with the person cutting my hair. When she finished, I said, “Thank you for taking care of me today.”
She looked at me, chuckled, and seemed surprised. I told her, “You are a caregiver. You are taking care of me.”
I explained that she helps people feel comfortable and confident while giving them a few moments to relax and enjoy being cared for. Then she understood what I meant.
Caregiving appears in more places than we recognize. Hairstylists, barbers, teachers, servers, mechanics, neighbors, and many others care for people through the work they do every day. Sometimes they need someone to notice and remind them that their care matters.
