Creating an Afro-Botanical Earth Altar (Indoors)
A hands-on practice of honoring the Earth, right from home.
You don't need land or a garden to honor the Earth - you need attention, intention, and a small corner of space. In this session, we'll create a personal earth altar: a living tribute of plants, botanicals, drawings, and elements that honors your connection to nature and heritage.
What to expect:
🪴 Gather — Bring plants, dried botanicals, stones, shells, or other natural elements that hold meaning for you
✏️ Draw or Collect — Some sessions, we'll spend time in intuitive drawing — sitting with a plant, observing it closely, and letting our hands honor it on the page. Other sessions, we'll gather natural elements directly, stones, shells, dried botanicals, to add to our altars. Either way, the practice is the same: slowing down enough to truly honor what we're welcoming onto our altar.
🎨 Create — Guided by what we noticed or gathered, we'll build our altars as acts of honor, drawing on Afrocentric and African diasporic traditions of honoring land, ancestors, and plant relationships.
🤎 Tend — Your altar isn't a one-time craft — it's a living, ongoing act of reverence. We'll talk through simple ways to care for it, refresh it seasonally, and use it as a daily touchstone for honoring the Earth.
