Oil change is the most importantly job!
Oil change !!! The most important job in maintenance !!! Everyone looks at oil changes like they buy their gas. Who ever is the cheapest !
This is so wrong ! Oil change is the most important maintenance performed today . The only reason you haven’t had a disaster is one simple word LUCK! One mistake can cost you thousands of dollars in repair .
Think about your body blood is the most important item. Engines are the same oil pressure is what keeps you driving , you lose it your engine dies!
So why depend on a tech who is young and inexperienced , not his fault he is just learning !he knows how to get old oil out change filter put new oil in , check the oil , then get you out the door .
Professional seasoned techs ,we don’t do them like that .i want to look at your old oil / filter . Why?because every rotation of your engine is causing friction ! Friction causes two things heat and wear! The evidence is right there in your oil ! It’s a palm reading or a look into the future !
I want to see what’s in that oil , if I see metallic flakes which are the size of a grain of salt!next thing I’m doing is putting your filter back n a vice , grab my die grinder and cutting that baby in half!
Why because I can save you a fortune by telling you what’s going on inside that engine . Maybe it’s time to get rid of this car think about a new one !
Next thing I’m going to do is get out my trusty brake keen , then I’m gonna thoroughly clean the place in the engine that the filter mounts!.because I don’t want no drips in your driveway . I don’t want no dirt under that filter seal!next I’m going to install this filter hand tight then a 1/4 turn ! Filters are designed to seal hand tight. Cranking them down can push seal out the side .
Next I’m going to shine some light on the filter I want to see a clean dry seal completely around that seal. Clean all oil off that area.check the drain plug ! Mark it with oil based paint stick! Now I know everything is perfect under here , but I will be returning underneath one more time !
Now I will lower your car to the ground .now I’m gonna look in the sticker provided by your mfg under the hood . This sticker tells me what oil to use on this engine !all oil is not created equally !
I’m going to look at computer to find out the capacity this engine holds . It says 4.6 at huffy lube that is 5 qts , at my shop that is 4.6 verified with dipstick !
Next thing I will do is, is fill all of the fluids not just windshield , you need them all to safely operate a car !im going to clean your windshield and headlights. I’m going to check every light in your car !im going to use spray grease on hinges latches door locks .
Now as your watching me raise your car in the air again and wondering what is he doing now , im going to check for leaks at the filter and drain plug!and everywhere else !im going to look at your tires are they wearing evenly are they close to 5/32 tread?your exhaust is everything supported welds all ok? As I walk around I’m scanning the whole car brake pads anything visible !
I will lower your vehicle , put the car in reverse then neutral then drive , I am looking for a certain behavior that tells me the transmission is doing what it should ! I am confident now that I can return this vehicle back to you safe and serviced , with alit if valuable info that lets you know what the future holds !that’s how oil changes used to be done . That’s why there are 50 yr old cars still I. The road today . FULL SERVICE GAS STATIONS ! Most of you may not remember these but you used to get most of what I just mentioned , when you pulled up to the full service pumps with exception of oil changes! Man those were the days!
