Thanks for creating this group! I was just telling someone earlier today, that I think it would be nice to have a forum where people could go to get basic knowledge on various components and systems on vehicles. I discovered your group just now and hope I can contribute from time to time. ABOUT ME: (Probably TLDR, but at least I'll only have to write this once!)
I spent ~ 10 years in Powertrain Electronic controls which includes control systems, sensors, and actuators, diagnostics (fault detection & fault testing), performance (calibration), modeling and simulation and I've spent a fair amount of time writing test reports and sharing them with the Engineers and Managers whom I've worked with in my earlier years of my career.
My modeling and simulation work was focused on Transmission controls and I've also gained knowledge in ignition and emission control systems.
I also spent ~ 13 years in audio systems and I'm familiar with design and development of audio systems (speakers, amplifiers, headphones, microphones) and have some familiarity with sound tuning and vehicle-level issues which can arise in these systems. My work has primarily been focused on Program Management while remaining focused on technology around these products and systems.
The next stage of my career has been focused on thermal management systems (seat comfort, interior comfort and patient warming) in a variety of applicatoins ranging from automotive, to aviation, military, medical, remote power, and thermal test chambers with a majority focused on automotive which also included EV-based Battery Management Systems (BMS).
Following that assignment, I spent a couple years in the EV industry on products which included prismatic cell design, development, and production as well as battery modules (12V and 48V) and battery packs (High Voltage), so I have knowledge how these systems work.
Lastly, I've topped off my technical career in Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) where vehicle autonomy can range from basic cruise control, to a hands free system that requires drivers to be ready to take over (for example, Jeep Grand Wagoneer has an L2+ system that fits this description). I'm familiar with camera and radar based applications and a little less familiar with lidar.
I've also torn down and re-built 2 engines and 2 transmissions in my lifetime in a classroom environment. They were a 4.6L DOHC and a 5.0L push rod engines and both a front wheel drive and rear wheel drive tranny. In class, we had to name all the components and explain what they did before the instructor allowed us to re-assemble. Talk about amazing!
I've had a number of hands on classes at Ford Motor Company and worked with assembly plants (for my job) and dealerships (for my personal vehicles) troubleshooting vehicles with their diagnostics tools.
I'm a perpetual learner but most of all, I love sharing what I've been able to learn from a variety of sources including individuals like Devon who are here to share what they know.
There's plenty happening in a vehicle that I don't know anything about, but as you can see, there's plenty I do know which I hope I'm able to share when time permits. Since it looks like this group is fairly new, I'll hang out here a while to get a feel for the environment. It's the first day for me to use the service (skool) and I already like what I see! I'm now a member of 3 groups - 2 free and 1 paid.
My background is in Electrical Engineering and Program Management with a majority of my career spent developing products and systems type projects and overseeing large organizations of Program Managers who are responsible for these projects. I love helping people and that's why I'm here! I hope to be able to offer knowledge and in return, I'm sure there's plenty for me to keep learning. I consider myself a perpetual student!
If there's anything else you want to know about me, feel free to ask! 😊
