The Utopia Was on the Test
She was in her mid-twenties, credentialed and certified, standing in a sixth-grade math classroom in a Title I school. She had done the coursework. She had passed the assessments. She had a master's degree with a certification attached, which is the path the system tells you to take if you want to be trusted with other people's children.
And then a kid came in hungry.
