My friend Jasmine has Type 4c hair. 💁🏾♀️
Her best friend? Type 3b. 👱🏽♀️
Guess whose routine Jasmine was following? 🤔
YUP. 🎯
She'd watch her friend's wash days and think, "Okay, if I just do exactly what she does, my hair will look like that too." ✨
Spoiler: It did not. ❌😂
Her friend's hair would dry soft and defined. Jasmine's hair would dry like a crunchy science experiment. 🥨🔬
Her friend could air-dry and go. 🌬️ Jasmine looked like she'd been electrocuted. ⚡😱
Her friend used three products. Jasmine used those same three products plus seven more trying to make it make sense. 🧴🧴🧴🧴🧴🧴🧴🧴🧴🧴
After MONTHS of this 📆, I finally said: "Jas... y'all don't have the same hair. Why are you surprised that her routine doesn't work for you?"
She got defensive. 😤 "But we're both natural! We both have curly hair!"
"Yeah, but her curls and YOUR coils are not operating on the same system, babe. It's like trying to run Android apps on an iPhone." 📱🤖🍎
The lightbulb FINALLY clicked. 💡
Melaninaires, can we talk about this? ☕
We see someone with healthy hair or glowing skin 🌟, and we immediately think: "If I do what THEY do, I'll get what THEY have."
But that's not how biology works. 🧬
Your Type 4 hair doesn't respond the same way as Type 3 hair. Your melanin-rich skin doesn't react the same way as lighter skin tones. 🤎 Your porosity, your scalp, your hormones, your environment—it's ALL different. 🌍
You can't copy-paste someone else's results and expect them to work for YOUR specific biology. 🚫📋
