How do I know where God wants me to be?
Judges 18:19 NLT
‘“Be quiet and come with us,” they said. “Be a father and priest to all of us. Isn’t it better to be a priest for an entire tribe and a clan of Israel than for the household of just one man?”’
How can I tell if God wants me to continue what I am currently doing or if it is time to make a change? The answer is I don’t, but faith is the key to that decision.
I can’t scientifically prove that I will go to heaven when I die. If science can’t prove that, then it also can’t prove if my next choice is the right one or not. My faith is what gives me peace in each step through life.
In this verse, a man is being faced with two options. Continue to minister right where he is, or leave and join another group as a leader and priest.
This has me thinking of when I was at a major crossroad in my life. Towards the end of college, I had three alternatives of what the next step would be:
  1. Stay and be a teacher in Orlando
  2. Go to Europe to play basketball
  3. Or take another job opportunity that would move me to Indiana
Any possibility that I select would drastically change the rest of my life. I have no way of knowing if it is for better or worse, and I don’t believe that I need to know that.
I thought and prayed for guidance in making a decision, the truth is there wasn’t a correct choice. I think God had a plan to use me no matter where I went. I just couldn’t make a move and then second guess what I was doing the whole time. Make the determination, start walking, and see what the Lord places in front of me. What ever option I took was going to be correct as long as I made the pick for the right reason.
I moved to Indiana and now, here I am. Looking back I should have only prayed for help making the right decision, I should have prayed for faith that I will seize the opportunity in front of me to the best of my ability. Don’t look back with worry, look forward in power.
I pray to not judge the decisions that I have made to this point, but rather stand tall in faith that God has placed me where I should be and will equip me with what I need. I can make mistakes, but He does not.
My past choices don’t change my destiny, they just decide the people that I am capable of impacting.
You are right where you are and that can’t change, the question is what will you do from here?
