What does the Bible say about war? Being that this is our first post in the Bible classroom and today happens to be memorial day, I wanted to dive into the topic of war. Here in America we all know that memorial day is to honor all of those who have served and died in the United States Armed Forces. Christian believers know that our God is a God of peace and love, we also know that he instructs us to love our enemies (Matthew 5:44), the real question is, what does the Bible say about war?
In a world marked by conflicts and war, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the chaos. However, as Christians, we can find peace in understanding that our battles are ultimately the Lord’s to fight. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that our struggle is not against people but against the spiritual forces of evil. When Jesus declared, “It is finished” on the cross, He paid the ultimate price for our victory and defeated the true enemy.
God’s sovereignty is like a mighty fortress in the midst of chaos. Just as He led the Israelites through battles, He leads us today. In Psalm 103:19, we read, “The Lord has made the heavens His throne; from there He rules over everything.” Even in the tumult of war, God’s authority remains unchallenged.
In all, God understands that wars are a result from sin. In 2 Chronicles 20:15 it states “Do not be afraid! Don't be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God's” This means that even in battle we should put our full trust in God that he will deliver us. So as you throw the burgers and hotdogs on the grill today remember the sacrifices that were made for you to enjoy today. Be grateful that Jesus paid the ultimate price, and that men and woman across this great land are paying the price till this day to ensure our freedoms.
