I’ve seen so many ecommerce stores close, not because they couldn’t make any money but because they had too much dead stock (inventory not selling).
You can’t be passive about trying to make money.
Posting about products here and there, rarely sending emails or texts, never doing markdowns…
These are basic tools and tactics that every retailer should be using.
Some of my most vivid memories while working in retail are the times when brands went into overdrive to sell old inventory rather pushing new merchandise.
This is because your inventory is cash. And when there’s too much cash tied up in old inventory, adding new inventory really isn’t that smart.
So, if you have a lot of old inventory here’s what I want you to do today.
1. Look at your inventory reports and identify products that you’ve had for 90+ days.
2. Choose a strategy from the slides and the dates that you’ll run the offer.
3. Launch the offer. This isn’t just an announcement. Update your website to highlight the deal. Share it on social, emails, texts etc. Don’t be passive about this. Post about it all day.
4. Evaluate the results and then choose another strategy to move what’s remaining.
