This is a great place for people learning Icelandic. I really appreciate the biweekly calls. The recordings are always available, so you can go through the material at your own pace. Any doubts or questions?- you can ask Oskar. You can practice Icelandic, share what you find interesting and helpful, and ask others how they’re doing. This is a community you can help shape—so if you have your own ideas about what’s missing here, there’s a really good chance you’ll be able to make them happen.

Óskar is passionate about teaching about the Icelandic language and culture in general. He meets each of us where we are at individually and it is clear that he is willing to evolve and try different techniques to make this the best experience possible for the participants. Also on this platform there are beginners, intermediate, and some are becoming experts. As a teacher it can be hard when your class is all over the place in expertise. He manages this dynamic very well. Vel gert!

There are Kennari and then there is The Kennari (teacher) and Óskar is it…and a bit. Getting up at 4 am (Aussie time) is a sign of my commitment to a knowledgeable, funny and patient teacher. I really look forward to our bi weekly sessions where a warm inviting space has been created for us Baby Vikings to take our first steps in learning this extraordinary language. The best thing is that you know that you are not alone! The Zoom-meetings are great and you have the chance to actually speak Icelandic. On SchoolViking you can contact other people who sit in the same boat as you, discuss problems or just chat and get some encouragement. Óskar has created a space where people from all learning levels are welcome. I love meeting people from around the world that share the same love of Iceland and preserving the language. It also keeps me accountable knowing I’ll get to practice every two weeks instead of wondering when I’ll get another chance to travel. I’m so grateful for this community.
