FIND THE SHOPIFY BOTTLENECK
Your Shopify store isn’t selling.
Before you change the theme, redesign the homepage, add more products, or increase your ad budget…
find the bottleneck first.
I use a simple way of looking at it:
1. No clicks → Traffic or creative problem
If people aren’t clicking, don’t immediately blame the store.
Look at the ad, content, targeting, hook, and the promise you're making.
2. Clicks but no add-to-carts → Offer or product problem
People were interested enough to visit.
But something stopped them from taking the next step.
That could be pricing, positioning, product-market fit, the page, or simply the wrong audience.
3. Add-to-carts but no purchases → Conversion problem
Now you know people want the product.
Something is happening between interest and payment.
Look at shipping costs, trust, checkout friction, guarantees, payment options, and the overall buying experience.
4. Sales but no profit → Economics problem
This one gets overlooked.
Getting orders doesn't automatically mean you have a good business.
Look at:
Customer acquisition cost
Product cost
Shipping
Fees
Refunds
Average order value
Repeat purchases
You can have a store making sales and still be losing money.
That’s why I stopped looking at Shopify as:
“Build store → run ads → hope it works.”
It’s more like:
Traffic → Click → Product/Offer → Add to Cart → Checkout → Profit
If you know where people are dropping off, you know what to work on.
If you don’t…
you’re basically changing random things and hoping something fixes itself.
That little shift in thinking saved me a lot of wasted time and money.
