I used to give excuses for being poor until I realized that an explanation was needed. It didn’t change that I still failed. So, I don’t want to hear your miserable excuses why you can’t get shit done.
There are 7-billion people on this planet and you (and I) aren’t special.
I lived at a garbage dump.
I stole ketchup and crackers from the gas station to have something to eat.
I sold potato chips to make money.
I slept in my truck in the parking lot of the steel mill where I was just another vehicle blended in.
Here’s the deal though, that was my motivation to get out of homelessness and poverty. One day while I was crashing on the couch of a friend in his apartment, he never answered the door unless he knew who it was because he too owed everyone. That sparked the idea.
I’ll bet you never heard of this one before.
I lived in Florida where everyone lives in apartments and every one of them had a door to get in. (obviously), But…none of them had a “peep hole” to see who was at your door. I started installing “peep holes” for $10 a piece for people.
Back then, the peep holes cost about $1. (One dollar). It took 2-minutes to drill a hole in the door and 7-seconds to install the peep hole. Bingo! $9 profit. I went from door to door banging on them and scared the hell out of people. Then when they answered the door, bingo. A business was born.
I could install about 35-40 in a day, six days a week. Sometimes 7-days.
Do the math.
That’s nearly $400 A DAY IN PROFIT! Times 5 days a week, (conservatively) and I earned about $2,000 a week…every week. That was in 1974! I worked EVERY apartment complex from Miami to West Palm Beach! There are thousands!
Minimum wage was about $1.20 an hour! Most people never earned more than $200 a week then! I was 19-years old and slamming in almost $2,000 a week.
So, here we are today. I get up when I feel like it. Have breakfast with my kids. Pet the dog and read the news…BUT , not until I check my bank statement to see how much I made while I was asleep!
No shit.
What a life, right?
I love my job, (no office, no secretary, no company car, no jet lag, and 0 employees)
A year ago, I was still working for a pitiful salary at the hardware store and trying to explain what Skool was.
Today, I’ve sold over $1MM in client sales, products and services, built an incredible digital online business, and work directly with multiple entrepreneurs to build their dream careers too. (Some of the smartest people I have ever met).
Most of the time, I had no idea what I was doing — but I kept building. Someone said, “it’s hard to beat a man who doesn’t quit trying”. It’s true and I proved it to myself.
In the process, I:
• Made a $ million dollars with the right guidance, direction from other people and a commitment that nobody could compare with. It is SAVAGE!
When I was 19, I told people I’d be a millionaire by 21.
It took until I was 30— but it happened.
I share this because too many people underestimate what’s possible in one year.
Most entrepreneurs aren’t lazy — they just don’t have the right system.
