My mentors tips on film study
My mentor has done film studies from anything from amateurs to world title fights here’s how he broke it down for me into 4 keys.
Identify styles and strategy - Inside fighter , outboxer , counters , high guard and front foot pressure etc
Identify tactics - how do they how do they close distance , do they set traps?
Tendencies- what patterns do they repeat :combos , head movement , footwork.
Flaws - where do they fuck up. Mistakes in technical form.
What makes someone special list:
Do they have good technique: stance balance etc
Do they have a good jab?
Do they have good jab defence ?
Can they feint?
Are they defensively responsible?
Do they understand positioning and level changes?
Do you have a full punch arsenal?
How comfortable do they look in the ring?
Can they adapt - take info and adapt to feedback
