Mastering the "Although / Even Though" Contrast
Stop using "but" to connect every contrasting idea and try starting your sentences with this structure instead!
Although / Even though + [Clause 1], + [Clause 2].
  • Normal: "I was incredibly tired, but I still finished my book."
  • After using the structure: "Although I was incredibly tired, I still finished my book."
  • Normal: "The restaurant was expensive, but the food wasn't very good."
  • After using the structure: "Even though the restaurant was expensive, the food wasn't very good."
ACTIVITY TIME! Let's practice in the comments. Now try to use this sentence structure by sharing 2 things that surprised you recently (e.g., "Although it was raining, I still went for a walk...").
💡 Pro-tip: Never use "although" and "but" in the same sentence! Choose one or the other, otherwise the sentence becomes repetitive.
