Hi all, my name is Reptilicus (actually Ted) and have been playing guitar since 1965. Started on classical guitar when I was 9 yr old . Self taught and played mostly rock and blues. I have recently retired and would like to learn to play jazz for my own pleasure. Besides guitar, I play the clarinet and bassoon.

Jazz has always intrigued me and I love to listen to the style but never "got it" or knew how to play it or where to even begin. Hopefully, I have found a place where I can learn at my own pace and get some really helpful tips on everything from basics to advanced as I start my journey. I have been playing for 30 plus years on and off and even studied music in college for a brief time but switched majors.

I'm here to improve upon my jazz knowledge. I've picked up bits of knowledge here and there over the years, but I felt it was time to do better for myself and the music we play, as well. I'm a multi-instrumentalist, with guitar and electric bass being my primary focus for work I've been doing working gigs on guitar for the past 29 years (acoustic or electric, lead/rhythm,/slide), and electric bass (4 or 5 string) is something I've been doing over the past decade. I've been focusing on violin in hope of finding work on that in the coming year. These past few years have shown me where my next focus on work will be. I'm hoping to improve my overall understanding of harmony, as well as improve on my reading (never been my strong suit on guitar).

Thanks for what you do. It took me a while to wade through all the introductory stuff. I learned a long time ago to condense my writing to a minimum. That’s just in line of a thought, not a criticism, you’re doing a marvelous job. Now to cut to the chase. I struggle with making the changes and the very first exercise nailed that. After playing trumpet for at least seven decades, four of which were in the opera pit, my mind works in a linear fashion. You’ve nicely uncovered my failing and have given me the tools to address it. Merci, mon ami. C’est un œuvre grand. ELF

HEY! I’m Elliot and I’m a guitarist. I’ve been playing the beautiful instrument for going on 20 years now, and achieved a BA in music because of my love for it. But, I have never learnt jazz guitar and it’s one area I want to improve on and I’m looking forward to the journey ahead!! Elliot x

Music have always been a part of my life... on and off as a friend that keep me grounded outside of normal life and a good remind that I got work to do to get better... lot of work... From bits of self taught piano and guitar in the past, I got to be interested in Jazz a year or so ago through reading about music theory and learning a few things about harmony. Simply put a light when on and I got passionate about finding the link between "that sounds cool!" and "that is why!" . Now... between theory and playing it, there is the gap that I need to work on!

Hi all, I'm Nat Ahrens...I'd categorize myself as an advanced beginner guitarist (still feel like a beginner but have been studying for 3 years, so am loosely tacking on the word "advanced"). I stumbled on this group while looking for the chords for Goodbye Pork Pie Hat. Looking forward to going through the classes and learning (and getting inspiration) from all of you. I'm also a latish-in-life learner, as I'm a few months away from 50.

When I was in middle school, I felt worthless, the only thing I was doing was playing video games and going to school. I was a good student, but there were times when I slipped up and got really bad grades, that got me thinking about my life. I found out I am really no good at anything. That's the moment I decided to pick up an instrument. My first choice was a saxophone 😅, but because of a lack of teachers I chose guitar after watching Back To The Future, Marty playing "Johnny B Goode". Like they say, the rest is history, I like all genres, and I'm here to talk with you guys, learn, and also teach what I know. I really like that here are a lot of older guys, music is for everyone, and I look forward to playing with you all!

Hello all, I've been retired for several years and getting back into music after many decades of listening and not playing. I've been trying to learn guitar off and on for many years (mostly off.) Hoping that being part of an active community will help keep me on track to follow through. We're in the middle of moving from our home of 31 years to two separate locations, one out of the country, so the next few months or so will be a little hectic and inconsistent.

I’ve been playing for 30+ years but never actually learned about the instrument until now. Playing punk didn’t require any actually knowledge. I’m looking forward to being a part of this community and learning from you all

Hi people, sorry I didn't have a picture handy. I am an old timer (71) who lives in Oakland CA. Hadn't touched a guitar in 35+ years but recently took it up again. Was always interested in jazz but I played rock-blues bands when I was young. Really enjoying myself, I wish such online resources were available back then. BTW, not related to Gabor- but we are all brothers, in spirit!

Hi, I'm an aging, mostly self-taught (please read: "came up with all my own bad habits and really drilled them into my brain) player in Paris, Ontario. I came to the instrument from a rock perspective. The time I spent in a rehearsal hall and on stage with my buddies in the band were among the most exciting, exhilarating and rewarding times of my life, and I found a part of myself that likes to compose. That eventually brought me to an attempt to learn some formal theory, and an appreciation for jazz harmony has evolved out of that. Go easy on me; my skills are limited, but my intentions are good.
