Drawing trend lines ?? Seems everyone has a different way

I was just watching the training videos on drawing trend lines - advanced- and have a question. I've been trading for several years, pass some challenges but usually don't because I try and make it all in one or I chase. I'm my own worst enemy.

However, when drawing a trend line I noticed that some traders connect the top of the candles and other traders connect from the bottom of the candles.

which way is correct? It does make a different especially if one connects the wicks.... I noticed in the training video some of the lines are connected at the high point of the candle and some at the bottom and some of the line is running through the middle?

Or doesn't it matter and one just needs the general direction?
