Growth Hurts. Even when it’s self-induced.
I’m making some changes—and to do that, I’ve put myself through what I’ll call self-induced training. The kind where you stretch yourself on purpose. It’s not always fun. In fact, it’s deeply uncomfortable. I have committed to a 30 day plan - UGH!
I have a love-hate relationship with it. I love the idea of who I’m becoming. I love the goal(s) that I hope to achieve by the end of the 30 days BUT I hate how awkward, uncertain, and unpolished it feels getting there.
But here’s what I’m learning: discomfort isn’t just part of growth—it’s the signal that you’re actually growing. And today I did actually learn something totally new - and so I grew!
Research backs this up - which I kinda needed in order to motivate myself!
A study by Woolley & Fishbach (2022) found that people who intentionally pursued discomfort in the name of progress—whether through public speaking, emotional writing, or learning new skills—felt more motivated and grew faster than those who didn’t. It's not the challenge itself, but the willingness to lean in that accelerates transformation.
So I’m leaning in. I’m stretching. Not panicking. Not chilling in the comfort zone. But that messy, in-between space where real change happens.
If you’re here too—feeling the friction of trying to grow—take heart. This tension means you’re doing it right.
Uncomfortable? Yes. But also… unstoppable.
