One of the hardest things I witness as a hospice nurse isn’t always the dying itself.
It’s the fear that comes from not knowing what’s normal.
When someone you love begins sleeping more, eating less, becoming less responsive, or their breathing changes, it’s easy to wonder:
💜 Are they suffering?💜 Is something wrong?💜 Should we be doing more?
Many of these changes are a natural part of the body’s process of letting go.
Understanding doesn’t remove the sadness.
But it can transform fear into presence, panic into peace, and uncertainty into connection.
When someone you love is dying, there IS something you can do to help.
Sometimes the first step is simply understanding what you’re seeing.
