“The tea in front of you is getting cold.
Drink it.
Enjoy every drop of it.”
— Anam Thubten
After more than 30 years serving in hospice and palliative care, one lesson continues to reveal itself over and over again:
The people who seem to approach the end of life with the greatest sense of peace are often the same people who learned to be fully present while they were living.
So much of our lives can be spent trying to solve every mystery, predict every outcome, or wait for the “right” moment.
Meanwhile…
The tea grows cold.
Perhaps the invitation isn’t to have all the answers.
Perhaps it’s to notice the sunrise.
To hear the birds.
To savor a conversation.
To laugh wholeheartedly.
To love deeply.
To dance while the music is still playing.
The vibrancy of life isn’t found someday.
It’s found in this breath.
This moment.
This precious, ordinary day.
If my work has taught me anything, it’s this:
Living fully may be the greatest preparation for dying peacefully.
