As a 13-year-old, I began questioning vaccines and cultivating an interest in herbalism. My grandmother was concerned about my assertiveness with doctors, who told me I was too young to decide about vaccinations. This led to frustration, and I left the office. As a result, none of my children or grandchildren have been vaccinated.
When my grandmother developed COPD, I researched its causes and started incorporating certain herbs into her care to support her lungs. She relied on a respirator for a period, and there was a time when she didn’t use it—an experience tied to the herbs I added to her meals. Once she realized she was breathing without the machine, she became frightened and returned to the machine. I believe she grew tired of living and continued using the ventilator. After I left, the regimen I had provided wasn’t consistently followed, and her condition worsened. My grandmother passed away eight years ago. I feel a responsibility to honor her, as I believe I have a gift for healing in my family.
