Before we can ever bear the outward "good fruit" Jesus commands, our hearts must first be softened by deep, inward humility. True spiritual traits like patience and discernment can't be forced out of a proud or self-sufficient heart; they grow naturally when we empty ourselves of pride and let the Savior fill our soil.
