Welcome to Ground Up Academy
I started my real estate journey because I felt stuck.
After graduating college in 2016, I landed what was supposed to be a “good” corporate job. In reality, it was a cubicle farm with a predictable trajectory: small raises every year, save what I could, and maybe—if everything went right—retire at 65.
The thought of that future was depressing. I knew deep down I wanted more freedom, more control, and a life I actually felt excited about. I was desperate to find a different path.
That’s when I discovered real estate.
When I learned that you could own property, have tenants pay down the debt, and generate income every month, something clicked. I became obsessed. I wanted to do anything I could to make real estate work and build assets that paid me instead of the other way around.
But there was a big question: How do you actually do this?
In 2017, I made a major decision—I left California, where costs were too high to realistically learn and take risks, and moved to Nashville, TN to put my freedom plan into action.
The early days were hard. About six months in, I hit a breaking point. I was overwhelmed, running out of confidence, and seriously considering quitting and moving back home—back to the cubicle I was trying to escape, feeling like a failure.
What changed everything was a mentor I found named Paulie Kazanofski. He taught me the business from A to Z. With the right guidance, things finally started to work.
Fast forward eight years:
- We’ve flipped over 100 houses
- Built dozens of new homes
- Manage/own 50 rental units
- And achieved the exact goal I set out to accomplish: freedom through real estate
I know I got lucky finding the right mentor—but I don’t think access to knowledge and guidance should come down to luck.
That’s why I created Ground Up Academy.
This community exists to give others the same opportunity I was given. If you’re willing to work, take calculated risks, and want to build something better than what you started with, you deserve the chance to live an incredible life on your own terms.
