I’m always interested in finding like-minded people who believe the way we think about education needs to evolve!!! Where are you?
School attendance is falling and children’s mental health around school is at an all-time low. ⬇️
At the same time, mainstream schools are being asked to take on more responsibility for supporting pupils with additional needs — yet the system itself has changed very little in over 100 years. ⌛
⭐ Success is still largely measured through grades, results, sets and academic performance.
But the pressure that creates can be huge for some children.
Not because they’re lazy or because they don’t want to learn.
But because the pace, expectations and environment don’t work for every child. 🧩
Some children spend their day trying to keep up with instructions that move too quickly.
Trying to finish work before the bell goes.
Trying to explain themselves but being interrupted or misunderstood.
Trying not to look like they’re struggling.
When success is measured so narrowly, many children end up feeling like they’re constantly falling short — even when they’re trying incredibly hard. 💔
Over time that pressure can turn into anxiety, overwhelm, shutdown or avoidance. 🙁
From the outside adults may only see behaviour, unfinished work, or a child withdrawing.
They don’t always see the effort it took just to get through the day.
And when children spend hours feeling misunderstood or constantly behind, it doesn’t just stay at school.
It comes home with them.
Families are often left trying to piece together what’s really going on — and how to help.❤️🩹
If you’re someone who thinks education needs to start recognising children differently, I’d love to hear your thoughts!! 💕
